Blog Canada

I'd like to wish our quiet neighbor to the north a very happy (and a tad belated) Canada Day! As a dear canadian friend of mine once told me, we'd lose our charm if we weren't always a bit late on all our letters and packages.

Speaking of packages, I found a magazine yesterday at the gym still wrapped in its plastic called Departures and since I'm a total mag junkie I decided it should be mine for my reading enjoyment. Upon flipping through the pages I discover the main focus of the publication is

"21 Reasons Not To Stay Home this Summer".

Houston made location #7 with the featured Inn at Dos Brisas, a $600 a night country getaway just minutes from my home in The Woodlands. If the price wasn't flashy enough, this five star spot (as rated by Mobil two years running now) has a landing pad for guests who like to drop in via helicopter at the last moment to grab some brunch. It boasts 124 varietiees of heirloom tomatoes, 24 different kinds of carrots, and 28 different squashes.

I move on to getaway #9 which is Londons' School of Life. It's an elite social mixer that gathers in the Bloomsbury Shop and is run by Sophie Howarth, a former organizer at the Tate Modern. Basically, it's for anyone who wants to seek therapy with a professional or just discuss politics, religion, or love amongst peers.

Some of the next few places covered are Chez Josephine in France, a cocktail lounge in Tokyo, and then we come to #15 which is titled "Golfing British Columbia". The focus is a four day adventure all set in the Okanagan Valley. It describes the breathtaking scenery and all the restaurants, wineries and golfing this Canadian town has to offer.

Here's the link to the mag but unfortunately it is accessible to AMEX members only. Remember I found this magazine but if you want copies of the articles and pics I can scan them for you.

The reason this drew my attention is because both of my canadian pals either call it home or hung their boots there for a short while.

The former is the very funny, smart and gorgeous miss Tara Miller. This chick has my dream job and is paid to go to concerts, meet and pose in pictures with the musicians, and then write about it all. She has three articles published in this month's edition of Gonzo. www.gonzomagazine.ca/docs/webmag/webGonzo0609.pdf

Although we've never met in person, I feel like I've known Tara forever because we share so many of the same friends and she is in on all the Nerd Herd's happenings and history. We just barely missed each other on our trips to San Diego and the Vegas vacation. It's only a matter of time I believe.

The second of my two Canadian pals, is also funny, smart and gorgeous, hehe, but alas, that will have to be saved for another blog on another day.
Sorry Marcus.

Great song by Puscifer, the vid is alright but I'm blown away by Milla's vocals! Total girl crush on this chick.

Ciao for now.
