Sorry about what happens later

I knew this was going to happen.... I got way too excited about this whole blog thing and then in the blink of an eye I dropped it like a bad habit. Typical Sarah behavior, throwing myself into something 100% then getting distracted with some other project or anything else that comes along that catches my eye. Wasn't too sure anyone was even reading all my rants and rambles but to my amazement it did circulate a little amongst some friends. So, being that I'm not one who likes to let anyone down I figure I'll give it another go just don't expect too much tonight as I am exhausted and have to get up early in the morning. Maybe tomorrow night I will have more energy, hehe. Anywho, this is a 30 second clip of what I look forward to every monday through friday.......acted out by bunnies, enjoy!

I finally figured out how to post a vid. no big deal.

So here' a couple tunes for your summer playlist. The first is an old mash mix that I came across a long time ago that rocks. The strokes make this song so much better.

I finally got my dad a guitar for father's day and he's teaching me some Willie Nelson songs, because he's my favorite.

This last one I plan on learning because I'm on such a Jack White kick right now.

Ciao for now.

Some Were Born to Blog the Blues

You know what really grinds my gears? Every night this week I've been suffocating in my air conditionless house, and averaging about 4 hours of sleep a night just tossing and turning. The good news is, it's back on and in full force, but I'm having a hard time enjoying it. You see today is my cousin Kayla and her husband Jay's one-year wedding anniversary, (congratulations you guys!!! ) but they had a little incident with an intruder today. Someone kicked in their door of their Austin apartment and took off with Jay's X-Box. Thank goodness no more harm came of the robbery than a demolished door and a stolen game set (they left the Wii though, clearly the robbers were retarded).

The thing is, I left my house unlocked all day today so the A/C repairman could come do his thing. I didn't think twice about it really because my neighborhood is usually pretty quiet as it sits back in the farthest corner of The Woodlands with nothing much behind it other than acres of trees and ponds. Before I got home late this evening, I hear about Kayla and Jay's robbery. Now I'm a little freaked but I've done a full inspection of La Casa de Rose, steak knife in hand, yet I can't help feeling like I would be better protected if I owned a gun.

The thought of carrying around a firearm or even just stashing it in a bedside table has always seemed erroneous to me. My boss has several and leaves them lying around in random places like on the kitchen counter and in his car. I literally tiptoe around them. Maybe I'm in denial, and it's possible the NRA doesn't have it all wrong. I'm sticking with my guns on this one though,[insert rimshot here], and pretty sure it's the safest choice not to own a firearm. I do plan on buying tickets to the gun show though.

I would like to wish my good friend Sara a very Happy Birthday and the following is for you!

FRIENDS VS TEXAS FRIENDS

FRIENDS: Never ask for food.
TEXAS FRIENDS: Always bring the food.

FRIENDS: Will say 'hello'..
TEXAS FRIENDS: Will give you a big hug and a kiss.

FRIENDS: Call your parents Mr. and Mrs.
TEXAS FRIENDS: Call your parents Mom and Dad.

FRIENDS: Have never seen you cry.
TEXAS FRIENDS: Cry with you.

FRIENDS: Will eat at your dinner table and leave.
TEXAS FRIENDS: Will spend hours there, talking, laughing, playing dominoes or cards and just being together..

FRIENDS: Know a few things about you.
TEXAS FRIENDS: Could write a book with direct quotes from you.

FRIENDS: Will leave you behind if that's what the crowd is doing.
TEXAS FRIENDS: Will kick the whole crowd's back-ends that left you.

FRIENDS: Would knock on your door.
TEXAS FRIENDS: Walk right in and say, 'I'm home!'.

FRIENDS: will visit you in the hospital when you're sick
TEXAS FRIENDS: will cut your grass and clean your house then come spend the night with you in the hospital and cook for you when you come home

FRIENDS: have you on speed dial
TEXAS FRIENDS: have your number memorized.

FRIENDS: Are for a while.
TEXAS FRIENDS: Are for life.

Downward Facing Blog

It's a somber evening here on Eagle Mead Place. The two Americans on the Air France flight that went missing yesterday, Michael Harris and his wife Anne, owned house just two doors from mine. I noticed something was going on last night when I turned the corner into my subdivision and there were newscrews lined up at the entrance and then the abnormally large amount of cars parked on the street with both Louisiana and Texas license plates. Then the heartbreaking news came today when Maryann, my friend right next door, talked about the missing couple on our local broadcast.

It's so mindblowing to think how quickly life can come and go in the blink of an eye. It can be quite heavy weight on the heart, but it makes me appreciate that I get to be spending [an indeterminable amount of] time back in Texas close to my family and old friends again. I think about last year when I was living in Pacific Beach, California and woke up to our street being taped off and flooded with police and new vans. Come to find out the our neighbor across the street got into an argument with his roommate and fatally stabbed him during the early morning hours. It saddened everyone around us and there was a strange feeling in the neighborhood for quite some time. What it taught me is that I think though it's good to be able to separate yourself from the situation and find some way to relieve the burden from your mind.
Today I decided instead of letting it get me down, I would try to find some way to refocus and I remembered something my friend Jen has recently thrown herself into, Yoga. She has proclaimed herself the most impatient person on the planet and she seems to have found some peace from the daily exercise. So, I looked up all the surrounding fitness clubs in the area until I found a class that started at 7:30. I got there early so I could warm up on the treadmill and mentally prepare myself to just RELAX.

Well, it worked. I don't know what it is about the poses like the back bend, the warrior, and the diver that just makes you bring all your attention to the different parts of your body and close out everything else in the world. Maybe it's just having relaxing music in combination with a dimly lit room, or the fact that a slow and soft spoken instructor is constantly guiding you through gradual and incessant motions. Fifty-five minutes into the class we were lying down on our mats, eyes closed and letting go of every tension in our bodies. After not getting more than 3 hours of sleep last night due to a broken air conditioner at my house, I was well on my way to dozing off with a blissful grin on my face. Just as I was about to drift away, I hear mind shattering snoring, the older gentleman directly behind me beat me to the chase. Another day I suppose.

A recent study conducted on Yoga vs. Reading, concluded that practicing yoga created more of the brain chemical called GABA that causes the body and mind to feel soothed and calm. As a result, Yoga lessened the symptoms of depression and nervousness far more than picking up a book.

I would agree with this study except for I know nearly everytime I try to read when I get in bed, I rarely make it more than three pages before I wake up an hour later with my face in the binding. Which means if I finish a book, then it must have been a hell of a great story.

Besides, look at these positions, Yoga can great for so many things such as flexibility. What other reason do you need?

I wonder what would happen if I mixed Yoga and Reading? Time to find out and hopefully get some beauty sleep tonight.

The Noteblog

To stick with my ongoing summer theme and my continuous questioning of life, I want to post this video by Baz Luhrmann called "Wear Suncreen" and it couldn't be more fitting.

My very good friend Jill from Germany shared this with me the first night we met. Jill was an exchange student in San Diego looking for a room to rent just as I was getting ready to head back to Texas. After sifting through dozens of creepy and boring craigs list responses to my ad, I could tell that Jill would be perfect for the cozy lil beach room. She came over to check out the house and immediately knew that she appreciated all that the place has to offer. During my last weeks there, we hung out a lot on the front steps drinking red wine and swapping stories about our lives and travel adventures. It was a sort of passing the torch, exciting but sad at the same time. Hopefully we will meet up again soon at Oktoberfest girl!

This clip always gives me some perspective and reassures me that it's impossible to figure it all out.
